Welcome to Trolley Dollies, a free and informal club for trolley users.

Over the coming months, Trolley Dollies will be offering all sorts of trolley related activities; including raffles, talks, and performances. I will be visiting various indoor and outdoor locations around Bow, with the aim of creating a network for chat, reflection, and participation.

As some of you may know, the original shopping trolley is a Sholley, and was designed in the late 70’s by local man Tom Bowler, whose factory was based in Old Ford Road. Whilst the factory has since relocated to Clacton-on-Sea, and is now managed by Tom’s daughter Jackie, the Sholley still has popular appeal in Bow and the surrounding neighbourhoods.

I am arranging a couple of day-trips to the Sholley factory in Clacton, whilst inviting Jackie down to Bow to give some informative talks on the Sholley’s history and future developments.

Trolley Dollies is the latest project by Michael Needham, a community artist based in East London. This project has been commissioned by Space as part of the Bow Festival 2005, which reaches its climax between 16th and 31st July.

I look forward to your support over the coming months, and please offer suggestions for future activities that could involve your trolley.
